Would you like to join our NHS Talking Therapies team?

At NHS Talking Therapies we are often seeking enthusiastic, passionate and skilled individuals to join us in the valuable work we do across the boroughs of Camden, Islington and Kingston.

Why work with us?

  • NHS Talking Therapies is a well-established, successful service and one of the first Improving Access to Psychological Therapies (IAPT) sites in London.
  • We value motivated, diligent and talented individuals in our staff teams. We invest in helping those who work with us to achieve personal and career developments through special interests, training and research opportunities and service development projects.
  • We offer a high level of in-house training, continuing professional development (CPD) and regular supervision from experienced clinicians.
  • We endeavour to support our staff as individuals and as a team on professional and personal levels through supervision, reflective practice groups and team meetings. We recognise the factors that can influence work-related stress and burnout. We promote self-care and offer opportunities for staff to engage in a range of wellbeing initiatives including mindfulness and exercise sessions as well as offering additional support where needed.
  • The experience and perspective of our patients is at the heart of everything we do. We are committed to co-production and partnerships between patients and professionals via service user involvement helping us to shape and develop our services. Some of our service users have taken on paid, peer wellbeing worker roles in NHS Talking Therapies and are trained to be involved in recruitment panels.
  • We have strong research and academic links with a number of academic institutions including University College London (UCL), Royal Holloway (RH), University of London (UoL) and University of East London (UEL). These academic links means we are involved in a number of research projects all year round and are invited to research update seminars which we encourage staff to attend. This helps to maintain up-to-date knowledge of the evidence base surrounding psychological treatments.
  • Our staff report feeling respected and value. They report feeling like they are part of an innovative team, passionate about driving forward with positive change for patients and the service.

See what our team say about us:

“It’s a very supportive team at all levels with PWPS, HIs and management.”

“Supervision was amazing and really encouraging.”

“The role is so varied. I like having autonomy.”

“Great team. Very supported. Open to suggestions and listening to us.”

“I love being part of the icope team. I feel inspired by the people I work with. People are so passionate and compassionate about what they do, and that’s infectious.”

Clinical training placements

Unfortunately we do not offer general clinical placement opportunities or voluntary experience. We do however routinely offer clinical placements to the following groups in conjunction with a number of universities who we work with:

    • Cognitive-behavioural therapists who are enrolled on the IAPT high intensity post-graduate diploma in cognitive behaviour therapy (CBT) training. We employ these clinicians, offering training positions within iCope as part of the post-graduate diploma CBT programme.
    • Counselling psychologists in training who are seeking second or final year clinical training placements as part of an approved counselling psychology training course. We only accept clinicians who are engaged in a professional counselling psychology programme leading to registration with the Health and Care Professions Council (HCPC) and chartered membership with the British Psychological Society (BPS).
    • Trainee clinical psychologists who are enrolled on one of the London based doctorate programmes
    • Trainee psychological wellbeing practitioners who are employed as part of the IAPT post-graduate certificate in low intensity cognitive-behavioural interventions.
    • Core Trainee doctors undertaking their psychiatry training are offered a CBT placement within iCope to carry out their mandatory short case; this is an in-house arrangement and is not open to medical students from other Trusts.

If you meet the above criteria then feel free to contact us with any queries about these placements. If you do not meet the above criteria, then we encourage people who are interested in gaining post-qualification experience to apply for jobs within our service via the aforementioned websites where all jobs across Camden and Islington NHS Foundation Trust are advertised.

Volunteering with us

We offer a number of placement opportunities including:

  • Psychology Student Placements
  • Honorary Trainee Counsellor Placements

Psychology Student Placements

We have a number of existing arrangements with academic institutions whereby we offer unpaid placements to students when this is a requirement of their course. All vacancies are advertised in line with the institutions recruitment process and usually offered 6-12 months in advance of the placement starting after an interview process.

If you are a university student looking for a placement, please contact your university placement coordinator to enquire what positions are available.

If you are an academic institution looking to increase your portfolio of placements available to your students, please contact Lucy Jackson, Lead PWP, on Lucy.Jackson@Candi.nhs.uk

Honorary Trainee Counsellor Placements – Islington

We run an honorary trainee counsellor placement scheme, giving clinicians in the later stages of their training the opportunity to develop their skills of working within a time limited integrative model in an IAPT service. This is ideally suited to students on an Integrative Counselling/Psychotherapy training and working towards BACP/UKCP accreditation. (This is not a CBT placement).

We have no plans to recruit further in 2019.

If you would like to be sent details of the placement when there is a vacancy, please send an email to Natalia Vavassori, Senior Counsellor, on Natalia.Vavassori@Candi.nhs.uk.

Honorary Trainee Counsellor Placements – Camden

We offer psychodynamic and integrative placement opportunities suitable for trainees doing their Doctorate in Counselling Psychology (year 2 and 3). In addition, these trainee positions are also open to psychotherapists and counsellors in the final stages of their training working towards UKCP or BPC accreditation.

If you would like to be considered for a psychodynamic or integrative placement within Camden Talking Therapies, please contact Svetlana Fleming, Senior Counsellor and Psychodynamic Placement Coordinator on svetlana.fleming@candi.nhs.uk

Peer Wellbeing Workers

Our Peer Wellbeing Workers (PWBW) are individuals who have previously used an IAPT service to help with their own mental health, and who now work for us to help develop and deliver different elements of our service. The role is paid on a part time basis and flexible to work around other work commitments one may have.

If you are interested in upcoming roles we would recommend visiting www.jobs.nhs.uk. Here you will be able to create an email alert to notify you when we are recruiting.
